Millennial home buyers on the hunt for the perfect starter home

If you are a person between the ages of 18 and 34 you know that you are very special. But did you know that you are the hot topic and target of a wide variety of industries who see you as the drivers of their economic success?
Markets are extremely sensitive to demographics. I know because I am part of a demographic that at one time made advertisers salivate. Baby Boomers were the Millennials of my day. And now, we are passing the torch to you!

The real estate industry is VERY interested in you Millennials. It is anticipated that you will drive the next wave in the market as you come to realize the great benefits of home ownership. Many of you (or, if you’re a Boomer, then your kids), have heard mixed messages about the risks and rewards of owning your own home, or what it takes to qualify. Come journey with two Millennials who have moved from curious to confident; from confusion to clarity, from apartment dwellers to home-owners.

Meet Seth and Kat!

Seth is a  30 year old pharmacy technician. Kat is a 26 year old records coordinator. Living in an apartment together in Ahwatukee they were getting increasingly frustrated NOT owning the dog they want, NOT being able to decorate the way they wish, NOT building any equity in their home.

When we first started talking about what wasn’t working for them in their home, they were uncertain about knowing the “right” time to purchase a home. The information they had previously gotten led them to believe that they needed a 20% downpayment and the means to make a huge monthly mortgage payment. Seth and Kat didn’t know where to begin to explore the possibilities of home ownership. They were less than hopeful that they would find a home they could afford in the Chandler or Gilbert areas they preferred to be in. The research they’d done gave them some knowledge of the need for inspections and appraisals, but a lot of concern about how they would manage all of that. They knew they needed help and called the Sharyn Younger Team at Glass House International Real Estate.

“Initially we were concerned about finding and buying a house in an area that was a good  fit for us that we could afford. We worried about down-payments, different loan programs, earnest money, closing costs, etc. There were so many new terms and concepts to understand. However working with professionals like our realtor, Sharyn Younger, and the lender she referred us to, Aaron Kerscher, put our minds at ease.

“Sharyn really listened to us and helped us figure out what would work best for us. Then she set us up on a system that alerted us anytime a home came on the market that we would want to see. She spent a lot of time with us, showing us houses, explaining documents, educating us on the advantages and disadvantages of various homes and answering lots and lots of questions”.

Kat and Seth did a great job, asking the right questions and following the advice of the professionals they came to trust. As a result, they were able to move from wondering if home-ownership was possible, to taking the very steps that would get them there. Stay tuned for more of their story as they go through the mortgage qualification process and find that they were way closer to their dream than they ever believed.
